Best airport to go to Chania, Crete

Chania International Airport (CHQ) is the best and closest airport.

  • It’s only about 14 km from Chania city (≈20 minutes by car).

  • It serves domestic flights (via Athens) and many seasonal international flights.


Alternative airport (if CHQ flights are limited)

Heraklion International Airport (HER)

  • Around 135–145 km away from Chania.

  • Travel time: about 2–2.5 hours by car or taxi, or longer by bus.

  • It’s the biggest airport in Crete and often has more flight options.

By Sea

Chania is served by Souda Port, located approximately 7 kilometers east of Chania city center. It is the primary port for ferries connecting Crete with the mainland and other islands.

Ferries connect Chania with Piraeus (the port of Athens) and other islands. The journey takes approximately 7-9 hours, and you can choose between standard seating, cabins, or luxury cabins.
